Port Townsend | Things to do
Port Townsend’s National Historic District dates to the late 1800s; but there’s more! City parks and trails, beach walks, Fort Worden State Park a short walk from town, historic residential area and a host of festivals and events listed below.
Fort Worden State Park: An 1880-era gem of open space, beaches, trails, lighthouse, festivals and events. This is campus for several schools, art workshops and music camps, and the Marine Science Center (map).

Jefferson County Farmers Market: White tents, food carts and live music–one of the best farmer’s markets in the country, Saturday/Wednesday.
PTeRider: Take a tour of Port Townsend in an open topped cherry red electric roadster. PteRider is also available for taxi rides throughout the historic district.
Port Townsend Aero Museum: See antique aircraft dating to 1926, exquisite models, restoration projects and flights from this $3.5 million museum at the Jefferson County airport.
Jefferson Museum of Art & History: Juicy historical tidbits of historic downtown Port Townsend and museum store.
Rothschild House: Intact 1850s home of chandlery merchant Henry Rothschild, built in the 1850s.
Boat Haven Marina and Point Hudson: See the restoration of the Schooner Martha at Point Hudson. Fishing vessels haul out in the boat basin where craftsmen make repairs.
Uptown Historical District: Where the merchant class lived and shopped above the rough and tumble waterfront. Historic churches, shopping, food and lodging.
Public Trails: Vacated streets create a network of “backyard” trails. Look for signposts.
Boat Charters: See Port Townsend from the water, orca whales, sunset cruises, day trips, weeklong charters. Does it get any better than this?
Biking: All bike shops have lists of favorite roads and trails. The Larry Scott trail is the first leg of an expanding bike trail all the way to Port Angeles.
Key City Public Theatre: New York found us. A lively group of professional and amateur actors and playwrights with productions throughout the year.
Kelly’s Art Deco Lighting Museum: One of the largest collections of its kind. A must see for architectural history lovers.
Manresa Castle: A former private residence, then monastery, now a hotel/restaurant.
Northwest Maritime Center: A waterfront hub of small craft construction, sailing classes, chandlery, rowing clubs and public space.
